- Establishment of the Commission The Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) was established by the Act of Parliament referred to as the Atomic Energy Act number 7 of 2003. The mandate of TAEC is to: 1. Provide Regulatory and Radiation Protection Services, 2. Coordinate, monitor, and 3. Promote peaceful use of nuclear technology in the country. Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission is the official government body responsible for all atomic energy matters in the United Republic of Tanzania

Prof. Manase Peter Salema
Prof. Manase Peter Salema is former Director for Technical Cooperation (for Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe) and Officer at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) (1990-2015). Prof. Salema, who holds a PhD from the University of Western Australia, previously served at University of Dar es Salaam / Sokoine University of Agriculture (1976-1990). He has a wealth of knowledge and management experience in the application of nuclear technology in various areas of socio-economic development, as well as dealing with strategic and policy issues of science and technology for development, international cooperation and multilateral diplomacy. Prof. Salema, served in various positions at the IAEA, including Deputy Director of the Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture, Technical Coordinator of the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, and his appointments as Director for Technical Cooperation since 2002 covered the regions of Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Europe.
The Acting Director General
Brigadier General Fulgence Simon Msafiri enlisted in the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) in 1982. He was awarded a Bachelors Degree in Aircraft Mechanical Engineering from the Military Technical College Cairo, in 1986. He attended Officer Cadet Course at the Tanzania Military Academy (TMA) in Arusha and was commissioned in 1987. From 1987 to 1991, he served as Unit Administration Officer and Aircraft Maintenance Engineer.
In 1994, Brigadier General Msafiri was awarded Master Degree of Science (MSc) degree in Industrial Engineering Management from the University of Dar es Salaam. In 2004, he was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. In 2011, he was awarded a MSc Degree in Defence Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School - Monterey CA, USA and 2014 he was awarded Masters Degree in Strategic and Security Studies from the National Defence College Tanzania.
Brigadier General Msafiri is a professional Engineer and a member of the Institution of Engineers Tanzania. From 1993 to 1997, he worked at the Tanzania Automotive Technology Centre as a Maintenance Engineer and Works Engineer. Likewise, he saved as Engineering Manager and Research and Development Manager with Mzinga Corporation Tanzania, from 1997 to 1999 and from 2012 to 2015 respectively.
The General is acquainted with management and administration; also he is a scholar in crisis management as well as in Civil Military Relations (CMR).
Fulgence is married to Anna and the couple is blessed with two children, Fulgence Jr. and Fredrick.
